Water Security

We promote a new water culture that allows sustainable management of water resources to access the water and sanitation needed for a dignified and healthy life. To achieve the same, initiatives with various Governments and other agencies are undertaken for water literacy in form of campaigns, training, community involvement, drive for cleaning water bodies and wall paintings to build capacities and enhance knowledge to manage, conserve and secure water and its source.

We work with various Government and civil societies in affected regions to create cadres and village development committees that prepare village-level water user master plans for efficient and equitable use of water.

Initiative has been taken in Pachpadra, Barmer in the Thar Desert for construction of Taankas for the marginalised families. Taanka is a traditional rainwater harvesting technique composed of a covered, underground, impermeable cistern on the shallow ground for the collection of rainwater. Rainwater or surface run-off from rooftops, courtyards, or artificially prepared catchments (locally called agor) flow into the tank through inlets. Water stored saves women from the daily task of walking long distances to fetch water from sources that are often contaminated.
